Carrying on with what’s become an annual tradition here, the local Salvation Army will hold its community Thanksgiving lunch next Friday (Oct. 7) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Citadel.
“Everybody is welcome,” said Capt. Angel Sandoval-Silva, noting the non-denominational lunch, which will feature turkey and all the fixings, draws upwards of 80 people each October.
Because space is limited at the Citadel, located at 316 Victoria Ave., it will be a “first-come, first-served” gathering, Capt. Sandoval-Silva added.
While the meal is free, goodwill offerings are welcome to help recoup costs.
The Salvation Army also could use some volunteers to help out at the lunch, to serve food, and set tables—“simple things,” said Capt. Sandoval-Silva.
Anyone who would like to help is asked to call the Salvation Army at 274-3871.
Meanwhile, with this being the time of year when we reflect on being thankful for what we have, Capt. Sandoval-Silva is encouraging the public to donate to the Salvation Army’s “Harvest of Hope 2011.”
This week, the Salvation Army sent out letters to district residents, businesses, and schools asking for donations of food or cash this Thanksgiving.
Donations can be sent to the Salvation Army, 316 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2C2 or dropped off in person.
