Terry Fox Run meeting now set for tomorrow

With the annual Terry Fox Run coming up next month, Vanessa Hebert is looking to get people involved in organizing this year’s event here, with a meeting tomorrow serving as a good starting off point.
The meeting originally was slated for Friday but no one showed up, said Hebert, who also is the executive director of the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau.
“It’s hard this time of the year to get everybody together, but we definitely have some decisions we have to make,” she remarked.
Tomorrow’s meeting will take place at noon at the Volunteer Bureau (located in the old CN station).
Details to be worked out include, among others, which family or individual this year’s run will be dedicated to, whether there should be a family barbecue afterwards, clarifying the new participant registration process, and which volunteers will do what during the actual event, which is slated for Sunday, Sept.
14 starting at 2 p.m. in front of the Fort Frances Museum.
Hebert also would like to promote fundraising challenges among local businesses, like the annual face-off between Pharmasave and the Clinic Dispensary.
Last year’s run, which was dedicated to the memory of Celeste Beck and raised about $11,000 altogether, saw 93 participants of all ages walk, run, bike, skateboard, and in-line skate the 10-km route for cancer research.
Hebert noted that as far as she knows, local resident Ed Katona also will be biking for the cause again this year—possibly going all the way to Minneapolis, Mn.
Sponsor sheets are available now at the Volunteer Bureau and various other places around town.
Hebert also is taking orders for Terry Fox merchandise, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball caps, and magnets.
