Terrific turnout for candelight ski

A nearly full moon, combined with perfect weather conditions, made Friday a great night for some cross-country skiing—and lots of people took advantage.
An unprecedented 86 people strapped on the boards or simply walked the one-km route along the Eighth Street trails to be rewarded with hot cider and marshmallows at the end.
Despite the lack of publicity or sponsorship this time around, this was a far larger turnout than last year when only 30 people showed up due to the bitterly cold weather.
This time, however, clear skies, mild temperatures, and lack of wind made conditions ideal for a little after-hours exercise.
Last year, the event was sponsored by the Northwestern Health Unit’s Heart Health Coalition. But this year, the only sponsorship came from the Town of Fort Frances, which furnished the cider.
The event was organized by Leon Wells and Bob Holmes while Sam Arbuckle, Henry Miller, Nioma Holden, Jordan Hammond, and Carmen Neilson groomed the trails, put out the candles, and prepared the cider.
