The tennis court project here has take another leap forward.
Town council approved Court Surface Specialists of Mississauga, Ont. to design and build an illuminated, fenced, four-court multi-use tennis facility at the St. Francis Sports Complex at a cost of $467,010 or less.
The price will be negotiated on the ability of the town to supply granular material from a concurrent road project and/or Fort Frances Power Corp. to provide labour for lighting, Community Services manager Jason Kabel told the Times.
The construction timeline is July 1-Aug. 26, and the courts would have a seven-year warranty.
A six-person evaluation committee individually scored two proposals—one from Court Surface Specialists and one from Manshield Construction.
The committee compiled a set of follow-up questions for each organization, noted Kabel.
Both organizations responded favorably to the posed questions and would be able to undertake the project for the committee, he added.
The evaluation committee recommended awarding the project to Court Surface Specialists based on its “vast experience with similar projects, extensive warranty, ability to produce courts in a cold climate, and price,” said Kabel.
In other business, council:
•passed a bylaw to approve an agreement with the province, through its “Connecting Links” program, for funding for the engineering work for the Mill Road overpass;
•passed a bylaw to approve an agreement with Teleco Landline for the replacement of the telephone system in eight town facilities;
•referred a letter from Joe Gladu to install a bench along the riverfront between Crowe and Mosher Avenue in memory of his late wife, Annie, to the Operations & Facilities executive committee for its recommendation
•agreed to proclaim May as “Community Living Month” in the Town of Fort Frances, as per a request from Alanna J. Barr, executive director of Community Living Fort Frances and District;
•agreed to deem Canada Day as a “municipally significant event,” as per a written request from Fun in the Sun committee chair Cynthia Donald; and
•referred a letter from Dan Topatigh, president and CEO of Tbaytel, to the Fort Frances Power Corp. for consideration.
