Teens invited to ‘shred’ session

Teens are invited to get loud and noisy this Friday evening at the new Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre as local teen Ravyn Bedard passes along her guitar skills with a workshop called “The Art of Shredding with Ravyn.”
“It’s just going to be fun. Just a chance to come and jam,” said Bedard, who is inviting teens to show up with their guitars and amps to play for the session which will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last for an hour or so.
“[Shredding is] just like hybrid heavy metal leads mixed with heavy duty chords, rhythms, and stuff,” described Bedard, citing Pantera, Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Texas Hippie Coalition, and Hellyeah as examples.
“There’s so many.”
Bedard herself has been playing guitar for about six years—first starting off with rock and then gradually getting into metal after about two years.
She will be showing, and sharing with any interested teens, skills such as heavy metal guitar rifts, pinch harmonies, whammy squeals, power chords, down picking, scales, and more.
