A 15-year-old male from Bearskin Lake has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in conjunction with an incident there during the early-morning hours of Sunday.
Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) were called to the nursing station in Bearskin Lake, where officers were advised that one male had been pronounced dead and that a second male, 19-year-old Leonard Kamenawatamin from Bearskin Lake, had been injured.
Kamenawatamin subsequently was flown to the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout for treatment.
The deceased, meanwhile, was identified as Neil Fiddler, 20, from Bearskin Lake.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow at the Chief Coroners Office in Toronto.
The suspect, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, remains in custody pending a court appearance tomorrow in Kenora.
At the request of the NAPS, the OPP’s North West Region Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, was called in to assist in this investigation.
It is being conducted under the direction of Det. Insp, John Horne from Thunder Bay.
