The Northwest Unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (NW-OECTA) Executive Committee unanimously passed a motion to donate $1000 to The Indigenous Reconciliation Fund. The Unit has also pledged to continue following the path of Reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit and Metis people.
“We acknowledge that no amount of money can undo the harm,” said the NW-OECTA in a release. “We hope that this donation can be seen as an act of good faith towards reconciliation, so that healing may begin.”
The Northwest Unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) is a local labour union representing over 120 permanent and occasional teachers from Atikokan, Dryden, Fort Frances, Stratton and Sioux Lookout.
