Teachers look to ease transition to high school

Press Release

The transition from Grade 8 to high school represents a significant event in the lives of students.
As such, teachers from both educational levels recently met at Fort Frances High School to collaborate, as well as to discuss supports that will provide a successful start for students entering high school this fall.
This strategy aims to build stronger links between elementary and secondary schools by promoting innovative “Student Success” initiatives and teaching practices, and focusing on the needs of each student.
Grade 8 teachers received presentations about Fort Frances High School’s student success, guidance, and special education programs.
They also learned about the differences in levels and expectations in various Grade 9 courses.
In addition, time was dedicated for Grade 8 teachers to share some of the creative “Student Success” programs that run in their schools.
The transition from elementary to secondary school is an exciting new stage for students and their parents.
In the coming months, Fort Frances High School will be hosting Grade 8 student tours and presentations, as well as a Grade 8 Parents’ Night to build stronger connections and to give students the best possible high school experience.
