Local residents will have enhanced mobility service from Tbaytel starting in January.
Tbyaytel announced the launch of its new 3G HSPA Mobility service in Thunder Bay yesterday.
The next phase of expansion of the new 3G HSPA network next month will target communities west of Thunder Bay, such as Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Red Lake and Kenora, with Fort Frances, Rainy River, Atikokan, and Nipigon to follow in January.
Full deployment of the new 3G HSPA technology will be completed by the third quarter of 2011, meaning that by this time next year, 3G HSPA service will be available in communities not mentioned above (i.e., those located between Fort Frances and Rainy River).
Barry Streib, director of corporate relations for Tbaytel, explained the full 3G HSPA network spans from just west of Sault Ste. Marie right to the Manitoba border, as well as north to Red Lake.
By the third quarter next year, the entire network will have 3G HSPA Mobility service.
“Our customers will benefit from improved access to high-speed wireless voice and data services, a broad base of handset technology and smart phones, and increased capabilities for high-speed mobile data,” Don Campbell, president and CEO of Tbaytel, said in a press release.
“Tbaytel’s investment in our 3G HSPA network will deliver increased value to our stakeholders in Thunder Bay and the region—for our customers, our employees, and communities in Northern Ontario,” he added.
“It’s very good news for the customers, for sure,” echoed Streib. “They’ll get higher speeds and better technology in terms of handsets, the latest and greatest if you will.
“All good news for customers.”
This new network will connect customers in communities and along major highway corridors covering an area of 300,000 sq. km in Northern Ontario.
In addition, customers will have access to a high-speed network that provides an integral link to the east and west in Canada and to world-wide roaming.
Tbaytel will continue to provide existing wireless services for its customers on its network.
Tbaytel actively is promoting and selling its new services through its Tbaytel Store and Tbaytel authorized dealer channels, such as Sight & Sound here in Fort Frances, where customers will be able sign up and access 3G HSPA mobility services in the new year.
