The cost to take a taxi and “Dial-a-Ride” has gone up here, as has parking rates.
With the increase in minimum wage, local taxi owners were looking to increase the taxi rates accordingly, and met with the town’s Planning and Development division to discuss the proposed rates.
The revised rates were approved by town council at its regular meeting Monday night, and will be included in an amended version of the respective bylaw at the next council meeting.
The new rates are as follows:
•$4.25 for the first .25 kilometres or part thereof;
•$0.25 for each 0.09 kilometres or part thereof thereafter (this is equal to $3.25/km);
•for waiting time, the charge shall be at the rate of $60 per hour; and
•for any deliveries, the charge will be the meter rate with a minimum of $3.50 for each delivery.
The rate for limousines will be a minimum $50 per hour, with a maximum of $100 per hour for larger vehicles.
The last taxi tariff rate increase was done in 2010.
Council also approved a recommendation from the Community Services and Planning and Development executive committees to sanction an increase to the “Dial-a-Ride” user fees effective Feb. 13.
Upon request from North Air Services, the adult fee has increased from $2.50 to $2.75 while the child fee has risen from $1.25 to $1.50.
Meanwhile, as reported in Monday’s Daily Bulletin, council approved new rates for loading zones, private rental stalls, and the Portage Avenue parking lot.
As of July 1, 2018, the annual fees for these each would be set at $540–a big jump from $376.25 in the 2017 user fee schedule.
Meanwhile, the daily fee to use to the Portage Avenue parking lot would increase from $2 to $4.
The annual fee for a church loading zone will remain at $70.75.
A second rate increase is recommended for next year, with the annual fees for loading zones, private parking stalls, and the Portage Avenue parking lot each slated to increase to $600 as of Jan. 1, 2019.
The annual fee for the church loading zone and the fee for daily parking at the Portage Avenue lot would remain the same ($70.75 and $4/day, respectively).
