Tax deal struck

Town council will vote tonight on a bylaw to approve an agreement with Métis Ventures Inc. to help repay arrears of taxes at 714 Armit Ave.
Back in February, the Sunset Country Métis sent council a letter asking that a payment plan be entered into with the town for three-plus years in arrears.
After reviewing the request, council denied it but then later reconsidered when further information was supplied.
The two parties now are getting together with an agreement to lay out terms of payment of the arrears.
The council portion of tonight’s meeting is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.
The committee of the whole will meet first starting at 5:30 p.m., but be in-camera (behind closed doors) until 6:45.
Council held its first of two regular monthly meetings just last Monday (Dec. 9).
But due to the Christmas holidays, the second one is slated for this evening rather than Dec. 23.
The first meeting of the new year won’t be until Jan. 13.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a janitorial tender for the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre;
•a report re: changes in council meeting dates in 2014;
•a Christmas message from Mayor Roy Avis; and
•a bylaw for the purpose of approving the minutes of current council.
