Anyone looking for something fun to do this Saturday night (May 28) should get out their flip-flops and summer gear for the “Sync or Swim” social being hosted by the Fun in the Sun committee.
Cathy Richards noted advance tickets cost $10 each, which still are available at the Fine Line Art Gallery on Mowat Avenue or from committee members.
Tickets also will be sold at the door for $15.
“We’re getting some lip-syncing numbers coming in and we’ll even take them that night,” Richards said, noting the social is set to get underway at 8 p.m.
While the original intention for the event was a full-blown lip sync battle, without a full slate of participants, the lip sync aspect has become more like a fun activity instead of a contest.
But Richards noted there will be prizes for the entrants.
“I think were going to have an act per hour,” she remarked.
“We’re going to play it by ear.”
Richards added she hopes the lip sync entertainment is something people will enjoy and that it will grow into a larger part of the event next year.
Saturday’s social also will include games (like limbo and putting), draws, and a penny table.
As well, a big beach ball will come out at midnight.
Tess Coish of Tess’s Kitchen here also will be on hand selling poutine.
“We’re hoping people come out and have some fun,” said Richards, adding the social is being held to raise money to fund activities on Canada Day.
She noted they are thrilled that sponsors have stepped forward to help with the July 1 celebrations, as well.
“It’s really coming together,” she enthused, noting they’re continuing to work on plans for July 1.
“There’s still a lot of work to do,” she conceded. “But hopefully next year will be easier.
“This year is just paving the way.”
