“Swollen Members,” a popular hip-hop group from Vancouver, B.C., will perform at the Couchiching rec centre on Nov. 23 as they tour to promote their recently-released album, “Armed to the Teeth.”
Tickets, which cost $20 plus GST, are available now at Sight & Sound as well as online at www.ticketbreak.com
Tickets at the door, if any are still left, will cost $25.
“I contacted their booking agent about three months ago and kept e-mailing back and forth because I knew they were planning to go on tour for their CD release,” noted Wade Friesen, whose company, Farmboy Records, along with B93 fm, are sponsoring the concert.
“I’m influenced by this group because I really like this group,” he remarked.
“They are one of my favourite artists.”
“Swollen Members” had music videos on TV several years ago, but Friesen noted the group is more “underground” now.
“They have a completely different sound now and . . . a really unique style,” he explained.
“I know there are a lot of people in town who really like them.”
Friesen said the capacity for the Couchiching rec centre is about 800, so he hopes to get as many people as possible out to the concert.
“It’s an all-ages event so there won’t be any alcohol sold there and there won’t be any allowed in the building,” he stressed.
“It is kind of geared toward younger kids, like the high school crowd, but parents, grandparents, and little kids are more than welcome.”
He anticipates a great show and is excited to hear the group’s new material, in addition to some of their classics.
“They bring a lot of energy to their shows and they’ll have the whole crowd feeling good afterwards,” Friesen added.
Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the opening act of Friesen and Maverick Judson taking the stage at 7:30 p.m.
Friesen also is still looking to fill about eight positions for the night of the concert, including security, hospitality, and working at the door.
