The next event in the “tour de Fort” concert lineup will take place next Sunday (Jan. 19) at 7:30 p.m. when Lenny G and his Capital City Orchestra play at Warp 9 here.
“It’s something new that we’re trying,” said Andrea Avis. “We wanted to give people a chance to dance.
“You can’t dance to swing music in your theatre seat. That’s why we’re at Warp 9,” she remarked.
tour de Fort concerts typically are held at the Towshend Theatre. But Avis said the last time swing music was brought to town, the one complaint people had was that they couldn’t dance.
Warp 9—which will be smoke-free for this special night—was chosen because of its dance floor.
“It’s so much more fun if you can get up and dance,” Avis added.
Because this is an “extra show” presented by tour de Fort, tickets are available to the general public (not just passport-holders) for $20 each, which can be purchased at the Fort Frances Public Library.
Lenny Graf has been singing and playing big band music since he was young. As the son of big band leader Eddie Graf, he grew up surrounded by the sounds of Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman.
Anyone interested in learning the basics of swing dancing before heading out to the concert can contact Fort Dance Studio or Dancemakers to find out about special lessons being held this month.
