Press release

Widespread testing of patients and staff underway

The Northwestern Health Unit and Riverside Health Care Facilities are investigating “Suspect” COVID-19 outbreak at Riverside Health Care Facilities-LaVerendrye General Hospital site as a result of one (1) patient testing positive. To further enhance our Team’s ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, additional precautions are being taken. While the hospital is already testing staff twice a week, we currently are testing all of our inpatients. In addition, restrictions are being added to permit ONLY visitors or care givers for palliative, critically ill, obstetric, pediatric, and emergency patients. Each of these listed exceptions, are permitted to have 1 visitor while palliative patients may have two at a time.

We have experienced increased COVID-19 infections across the district due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant. Riverside staff have been affected by this surge in cases.

We recognize the immense responsibility our hospital, long-term care and community service team’s carry each day in their efforts to provide both quality and safe care. While the coming weeks and months ahead will bring further challenges, we appreciate the support of our patients, residents, clients, families, staff, physicians, board and the public as we recognize the role we play in protecting our communities.
