Suspect in custody from Rainy River firearm incident

(RAINY RIVER, ON) – An incident involving a firearm at the Rainy River Hospital has ended with a suspect in custody and damage to several vehicles.

No-one was injured in the incident, and there is no danger to the public, according to the OPP.
In the morning of May 7, members of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to an incident involving a firearm at the Rainy River Hospital located at 115 Fourth Street Rainy River. Because this incident is still under investigation, no more information can be made available, but police will update the public as the investigation proceeds.

Kathryn Pierroz, Communications co-ordinator fro Riverside Health Care, confirmed that three vehicles were damaged in the incident, which took place in the parking lot. However no-one was outside the time. The incident sparked a precautionary Heightened Security state, in which movement was limited in the building, and security staff made rounds of the facility. Extra security staff had been requested for deployment to the site, but after administration was informed that a suspect had been taken into custody, that request was cancelled.
