In the sprit of the season for giving, the Super 8 Motel here is giving families facing emergencies a place to stay for free Dec. 24-26.
“It’s called the ‘Rooms at the Inn’ program. It’s done by Super 8s across the country,” local manager Wanda Barker said yesterday.
“It’s up to each individual hotel whether they want to do it,” Barker noted, adding she knew for sure the one here and in Kenora – both owned by Kevin and Leah O’Flaherty – are running with the program this year.
“It’s basically free lodging for people that have emergencies during the 24th, 25th, and 26th. If a family member has a serious illness, or there’s a sudden death in the family, we can help them out.
“You don’t like to look at the doom and gloom, but things can happen during this season,” Barker remarked.
Both La Verendrye hospital and the Emo Health Centre have been made aware of Super 8’s limited-time offer, and in case of an unfortunate emergency, they will notify families of it.
“It’s a nice thing to do,” noted Barker. “If we can help anyone out, we will.”
The local Super 8, which officially opened its doors Sept. 28, offers 59 rooms, including 12 two-room executive suites, a honeymoon/jacuzzi suite, an over-sized business suite, as well as a pool, hot tub, and breakfast area.
