Summer school details finalized

With 48 students enrolled in summer school next month, the Rainy River District School Board will be offering instruction at four sites across the district.
“With the funding provided by the high enrolment, parents should be happy we’re providing this all across the district,” assistant superintendent Betty Ann LaRocque said Tuesday.
Open to grade seven and eight students from both the local public and Catholic school boards, those enrolled will be getting extra help with their English and math studies from July 3-18 at Robert Moore here, Riverview in Rainy River, Donald Young School in Emo, and Atikokan High School
One teacher will be posted at each school, with Shane Bliss teaching at Robert Moore, Karen Wilde at DYS, Lee Ann Maraj at Riverview, and Cheryl Williams at AHS.
Both Robert Moore and DYS will host 12 students. AHS will have the most students at 16, with Riverview getting the other eight.
AHS and DYS led the way with 10 students each. Other students were enrolled from St. Patrick’s (six), Riverview (six), Crossroads (five), Robert Moore (four), J.W. Walker (four), Our Lady of the Way (two), and Sturgeon Creek (one).
LaRocque noted the numbers were “an improvement” over last year but added she wasn’t too surprised since instruction was opened to both grade seven and eight students this time.
“We had about 17 grade seven students enroll, which is significant,” she said.
Students had the choice of studying either English, math, or both. And LaRocque said the fact about 80 percent of the students will be full-time also helped with grant dollars.
