The Fort Frances Public Library is hosting a new reading program this summer called “Laugh Out Loud @ Your Library” and kids could not be more excited.
The program has only been running for 10 days but there have already been 80 kids signed up and more are eager to join.
Upon registration, children are given a music record that gets hung from the ceiling and acts as a chart to keep track of their reading progress.
Every time a child completes a book (or if they are still beginners, every time a story is read to them) and then they do a book report with one of the staff members, the child is allowed to pick a smiley face sticker to be placed on their record.
The book report takes the form of a board game where skill-testing questions correspond with a square on the board.
Questions range from “What is your favourite part?” to “Describe your favourite character?” and “Did you learn anything new?”
For every five completed book reports, they get a great prize and if they reach the goal of a whopping 20 books they also receive a grand prize and an invitation to the celebration party which will be held at the end of the contest on Friday, Aug. 22.
The program started on June 30, but any child age three and up who loves to read can sign up right up until the end of the program.
Kids can only report on a maximum of three books at a time though, so don’t wait until the last minute if you want to make it to the party!
