‘Summer Quest’ to sport full lineup

There seems to be no end to the number of talented folk in the area and next month’s inaugural “Summer Quest,” being held July 21 in conjunction with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship, has 20 contestants signed up to prove it.
“We have a lot of new faces this time around, which is nice to see,” organizer Dawn Booth enthused yesterday.
Of the 20, 11 are new to the “Quest” competition. Although Booth was reluctant to reveal any names just yet, two she did mention were Rod Armit and Danette Donald.
The other nine included some who competed in past “Quest for the Best” contests–Alison Booth, Debbie Connon, Graham Matheson, and Melanie Bodnar.
Unlike the winter “Quest,” former first-place winners, such as Bodnar, are being allowed to compete again.
A full roster of the competitors should be available at a future date.
Something new this year was the option for duets to enter the competition. But just one–Dee Dee Maraj and Katherine Barron–entered.
Booth said she would have liked to have seen more.
Another first for any “Quest” will be programs. Courtesy of Good Impressions Printing, the program will include bios of all the entrants, a “score sheet” to give spectators a hand when deciding the People’s Choice winners, and much more.
“It’s a good opportunity to give people a better idea of what ‘Quest’ is all about,” noted Booth.
This year’s winner will take home $500, the runner-up will earn $300, and third place will be worth $200. Two People’s Choice awards, worth $100 each, also will be up for grabs.
Tickets for “Summer Quest” will go on sale Monday starting as soon as the Chamber of Commerce office opens at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $10, and there is a limit of 10 per person.
Volunteers also are still needed to work under the tent that night. Anyone interested can contact Booth at 274-5773 or 1-800-820-FORT.
