Sudden death probed

The OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch, at the request of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, is investigating the sudden death of a male at Cat Lake.
On Thursday evening, an officer from the Cat Lake detachment of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service responded to the report of a disturbance at the community nursing station.
Upon arrival, police were confronted by an agitated male.
The officer tried to arrest the male and a struggle ensued.
With the assistance of a second officer, the suspect successfully was taken into police custody.
Shortly after being taken into police custody, however, the male suspect went into medical distress.
Medical assistance was provided but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The deceased was identified as Romeo Gerald Wesley, 34, of Cat Lake First Nation.
A post-mortem examination was expected to take place today in Toronto.
