Sandwich lovers will have a new place to dine starting today as a Subway franchise opens its doors here in Fort Frances.
The new restaurant, located in the old Sunset Shell building on King’s Highway, will be open daily from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. and serve a variety of sub sandwiches.
“It’s been a lot of hard work but I’m finally going to make it happen,” franchise owner/operator Harvey Perry said Monday.
Final preparations were being made right up until the launch this morning, including installation of security systems and checking the first delivery of food.
“A lot of people are looking forward to trying a Subway sandwich and some of our other food,” Perry noted. “The comments have been all positive.”
Last night, Perry invited a few guests to sample the fare at his new restaurant. Some of the 16 part-time and full-time employees were on hand to serve up the sandwiches.
“It’s delicious. It was the first time I’d ever had a sub,” Anne Zucchiatti said after finishing her meal.
Zucchiatti also said she was impressed they will be serving breakfast.
“Yeah, now Anne won’t have to cook me breakfast,” her husband, Alan, added.
“It’s very good,” agreed Jay Burnett. “I’m having southwest chicken in Northwestern Ontario.
“I think they’ll do very well and be here for the long-term,” he added.
“It was more than I expected,” noted Shirley Cressey, who also works in the Rainy Lake Plaza. “I love the decor and the service is number-one.”
“I work at this [plaza] and I like it. I’ll come out of ‘Curves’ and come here,” said Marie Supinski as a tray full of freshly-baked cookies passed by.
People were lined from the counter, curled through the store, and practically out the door at last night’s invitation-only affair.
While the store is open for business starting today, an official grand opening is planned for a later date.
