In an effort to maximize efficiency, Fort Frances town council and administration staff have been reviewing numerous potential cost-saving measures.
One that has not yet been studied, but could be considered, is odd/even showering. Implemented by the Northeastern Ontario municipality of Durtee, the bylaw would work in much the same way as the current summer lawn watering bylaw.
Those who have odd-numbered addresses would shower only on odd-numbered days, while those with even-numbered addresses would shower on the even-numbered days.
There is no word as to the actual cost-savings of such a plan, and it seems local resident opinion may be divided on the issue.
In polling several people over the weekend, one said daily showering was simply “pouring good money down the drain,” while another said, regardless of the decision she would “go with the flow.”
A third suggested they were “too tapped out to pay any bills, period,” while the fourth person said he hoped council, if they decided to go for it, would just make a decision and “not run hot and cold on this issue.”
