Students get ready for some ‘Grease Lighting’

Get your poodle skirts on and your pompadour combed for an evening of ’50s song and dance when Fort Frances High School stages its version of the popular musical, “Grease,” starting tomorrow night at the Townshend Theatre.
The two-hour musical will be the last show the students will hold this school year–and it’s one they’re looking forward to performing.
“We had our final two dress rehearsals Monday and Tuesday,” noted parent helper Nancy Gibb. “The rehearsal[s] went very well and the kids did a great job.
“They have all really worked very hard and it shows through in their performance,” she added.
With the curtain going up at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, as well as at 1:30 p.m. for a Saturday matinee, Gibb and the 30 cast members are hoping the audience will enjoy–and appreciate–the work that has been done to make this production a reality.
“Since the students have [had to do] this pretty much on their own, we have had to scale it down quite a bit,” Gibb noted. “[But] even though we have not had access to props or sets, the students have really done a wonderful job bringing this whole thing together.
“I think people are going to be very impressed with the work they have done.”
Gibb also said these kids are so confident on the stage.
“I think that confidence will really shine through during their performance and the audience will have the chance to see how much fun the students have had getting this musical to the stage.
“People should come to the play expecting a good time.”
Tickets, which cost $7 for adults and $5 for students, can be purchased at Northwoods Gallery and Gifts on Scott Street, or at the theatre box office each night before the show.
