The Rainy River District School Board is pleased to congratulate Fort Frances High School student Angeline Redford, who was appointed to the 2017-18 Minister’s Student Advisory Council.
As one of 60 students selected from more than 480 applicants across the province, Redford will serve in an advisory capacity to the minister of education on topics relating to the public education system.
These students will have an opportunity to have their voices heard, and to take action on issues they feel are important to students and student learning.
Student Advisory Council members are selected based on a diversity of backgrounds, opinions, and experiences.
Students will meet with Education minister Mitzie Hunter twice during their one-year term.
Redford recently returned from Toronto, where she participated in the inaugural conference with her student voice team.
There are many opportunities for leadership and skills development for students, including a chance to learn about strategic planning and the formation of government policy, programs, and practices.
Redford will work collaboratively to prepare a report of recommendations, and may be invited to participate in other student forums, events, or conference to discuss student-related issues.
“The board encourages students to be more engaged and responsible citizens through community service and volunteerism,” said Heather Campbell, director of education for the Rainy River District School Board.
“Angeline’s enthusiasm and commitment to providing student perspectives and feedback to the ministry’s student engagement activities is greatly appreciated,” she added.
