Joe Galbraith is asking the community to help him “Fill a Trailer” with donated winter clothing for those in need.
As part of a project for his social service worker program through Contact North here, Galbraith and another out-of-town student will be outside Safeway here Nov. 24 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. to collect the donations.
“We’re looking for all kinds of winter clothing—mitts, toques, boots, hats, scarves, jackets,” he noted, though adding they also will be accepting clothing of any kind.
“And for all ages, baby to elderly.”
Both new and gently-used items will be accepted, with all being given to the local Salvation Army.
Galbraith stressed donated items should be clean and in good condition.
“The idea is also for creating awareness in the town of the Salvation Army,” he explained.
“Not just about the work they do at Christmas, but all year round.”
Galbraith said a lot of people probably don’t know about all the services they offer to local residents and just how many people they assist in the community.
“We just want to raise awareness and get the community involved,” he reasoned, adding he also hopes to distribute pamphlets about the Salvation Army.
And as an incentive for people to donate winter gear and clothing, Galbraith said anyone who makes a donation will be eligible to enter their name in a draw.
The trailer will be parked in the Safeway lot, and will have plenty of hooks and racks where the clothing and other items will be sorted and hung.
“Please come on out and help us provide people of all ages with the warm clothes the need for the winter season,” he stressed.
Galbraith said they don’t have a particular goal in mind—just to get as many donations as possible.
In addition, Galbraith, who volunteers at Rainycrest, is looking to for people to donate Christmas lights they no longer are using to the seniors’ home.
“It would just be something nice for them,” he remarked.
