The Rainy River District School Board is pleased to announce it has enhanced its Public Library and eBook Initiative for all kindergarten-Grade 12 students.
With a successful implementation of the Co-operative Library Program in 2015-16, roughly 1,500 students were registered and a total of $50,000 put into ebook purchases.
Through the partnership with the Rainy River District Library Co-operative and Educational Institutes, the program provides free student access to resources at the participating libraries, including the Atikokan Public Library, the Emo Public Library, and the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre.
In order to further improve student access, and reduce the clerical work required with the enrolment method, the Rainy River District School Board has streamlined the process by signing up all of its students.
About 2,000 more students now have library memberships.
The need to complete a sign-up form has been eliminated and the library card numbers have been integrated as part of each students’ identity to provide ease of use.
Instead of recalling the 14-digit library card number, students simply can login using their student number and password for instant access to ebooks.
A direct link for students is provided on the board’s portal (http://portal.rrdsb.com).
Providing proper parental signatures, students can receive their library card at the nearest participating library to check out physical resources.
The Rainy River District School Board sees the value in providing improved access to all students to encourage reading and enhance classroom learning.
