‘STREETNiX’ to hit stage tomorrow night

tour de Fort will be showcasing the innovative vocal talents of an a cappella quartet from Saskatoon, Sask. called “STREETNiX” tomorrow night at the Townshend Theatre.
The concert, which gets underway at 7:30 p.m., is sold out to tour de Fort passport holders but a limited number of “stand-by” tickets will be available at the door for $20 (adults) and $15 (students 18 and under).
“I would call them amazing,” said tour de Fort president Wendy Brunetta. “It’s unbelievable what they can do with their voices. You would swear there was a back-up band.”
Their infectious appeal and original vocal performances have been driving fans across Canada crazy for the past nine years
Wanda Botsford, head of publicity for tour de Fort, is looking forward to the quartet’s show and believes they will appeal to a wide range of tastes.
“‘STREETNiX’ presents a great, clean-cut program that appeals to all ages,” she enthused. “They have youthful enthusiasm, incredible harmonies, and a great choreographed stage show.
“They have a sound that is similar to the Beatles, Backstreet Boys, and N’Sync,” she noted. “What makes them very unique is that every sound is created with the human voice.”
Formed in the fall of 1991 by six students from the University of Saskatchewan, “STREETNiX” spent their early days performing traditional a cappella standards at banquets and coffeehouses.
Soon the group, which had transformed into a four-member one, was performing at public schools and community functions, eventually cutting their first album in the summer of 1993.
Since then, it has been receiving rave reviews and praise for their blend of cutting-edge technology and vocals in their effort to explore and expand the boundaries of traditional a cappella music.
With more than 1,400 performances under their belts in the past six years, plus total album sales of over 40,000 units, “STREETNiX” has built a fan base in every region of Canada.
In fact, the band’s reputation for presenting an exciting and polished show made tour de Fort organizers decide to hold an additional concerts for local high school students.
“When we saw the group, we knew that they would have an appeal for a younger audience as well so we are bringing them into the high school,” noted Brunetta.
Students had the chance to hear the quarter today at 12:45 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre.
During their concerts, the group will take a few moments to demonstrate their creativeness by mixing their voices with a number of audio effects–from the basic drumbeat to a collective of unique sounds.
