‘Strawberry Social’ on tap tomorrow

The La Verendrye General Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting its annual “Strawberry Social” tomorrow (June 21) from 2-5 p.m. on the hospital grounds.
Auxiliary president Joan Mudge, believes there will be something for everyone at this year’s event–not to mention delicious strawberry shortcake for $2.50.
“We will have the usual baked goods, pink elephant items, and plants for sale at this year’s social,” Mudge said Tuesday. “We will also have books to buy and a number of draws with wonderful prizes to give away.”
Among the prizes to be raffled off include a beautifully-handcrafted cedar swing and gas barbecue.
“So many people from the community have been very generous,” Mudge noted. “They have donated a number of wonderful prizes for our social and we could not be more grateful.”
Always a popular event, the auxiliary already has received 125 delivery orders for shortcake tomorrow afternoon.
“We will deliver shortcake to anyone who would like to order some,” Mudge explained. “We already have a number of people wishing to have the goodies delivered to their homes or places of employment.
“We are all very excited about the response we have gotten from everyone.”
With proceeds going to the “Care Close to Home” campaign, Mudge feels those who attend the event are securing their own futures.
“We have a $500,000 commitment to the campaign,” she said. “With that in mind, we are ‘strawberry socially’ everything we can. Those people who come out and donate to the auxiliary are really helping themselves.”
Also planned for tomorrow will be a lucky dozen draw that always seems popular among guests.
“We will have a long table with a variety of different prizes on it,” Mudge said. “People will then purchase a ticket and then place their ticket in a jar that corresponds with the item they want.
“At the end of the social, we will draw for the prizes. It should be a lot of fun.”
Though it is always a lot of work, and the weather is never a guarantee, Mudge and her fellow auxiliary members are always excited about the annual gathering.
“We are looking forward to Thursday,” she admitted. “It is always a great deal of fun because there is really something there for everyone. I think that is what makes it special.”
