It’s not too late to enter the Canada Day parade, which will be held on Front Street at 5 p.m. on July 1st.
The theme of the parade this year is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, so participants are encouraged to think royally.
Just one of the many activities going on this weekend, the parade is a chance for people to come out and get dressed up to show off their Canadian or royal attire.
So whether it’s a crown or a maple leaf, all are welcome to join in the parade, which is free to enter.
The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the parade, is still looking for floats, cars, bikes, and pedestrian groups.
“If you want to come down don’t be shy, it’s all about having fun and showing our community spirit,” said Chamber manager Anthony Mason.
“The more people that participate, the better it is,” he added. “There’s all these days in the summer that we can go to the lake, so let’s take a break and show the community spirit!”
There is three different prize categories: best theme, best overall, and best Canadian. The categories are sponsored by Gillons’ Insurance, Badiuk Equipment, and Simplicity Professional Hair and Body Care.
Right now, the Chamber has 14 vehicles registered, not including the emergency service vehicles.
But they stressed that anyone is welcome to join in on the day of the event—just be at the wood yard for 3:30 p.m. to be judged and organized for the parade at 5 p.m.
In response to some confusion over the evening parade time, Mason said “the reason we moved it [the time] is because it’s on a Sunday, we don’t want to conflict with church services; and then the dragon boat races are happening, and we don’t want to overlap them because it’s a new event.”
