Stained glass is in the spotlight this month at the Fine Line Art Gallery here, with an open house slated for this evening from 4-9 p.m.
The open house will showcase a variety of work done by local artist Emily Hyatt of “A Touch of Glass,” as well as that done by many of her students from the past 25 years.
Hyatt, who is kept busy each spring and fall teaching a myriad of one-day workshops and courses, said the idea behind the exhibit is simple.
“Student always say they never get to see other people’s work,” she noted.
So Hyatt contacted a number of her students, and managed to get 25-30 of them to let her put their work on display at the gallery, located at 529 Mowat Ave.
These students, who hail from across Rainy River District (and, in a couple of cases, have since moved to southern
Ontario and Alberta), then were invited to come to this evening’s open house, which also is open to the public, so they check out each other’s stained glass.
For those who can’t make it this evening, Hyatt said everything put on display for the open house will remain at the gallery for the next two weeks, with some of it to be there until the end of August.
Hyatt said this is because she has to return some pieces to their creators, adding the stained glass work certainly is valued by their creators.
In one case she can think of, in fact, an individual is doing without their living room lamp while it is on display at the gallery.
For those interested in learning how to make stained glass or learn some new techniques, Hyatt said a complete schedule of all her classes will be available this evening at the gallery.
