St. Francis students to celebrate ‘love’

Press Release

Students at St. Francis School will celebrate their next Spirit Day on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
“The theme is ‘Love’ and an old-fashioned sock hop dance will be held in the gym to celebrate the ‘love’ of music,” noted principal Teresa Dennis.
Students are invited to wear their best ’50s outfits and their funkiest socks.
“A ’50s photo booth will be set up in the hall outside the gym and students will have the opportunity to get their picture taken for a fee,” said teacher organizer Solange Busch.
“The money raised will go towards an ongoing ‘Spirit Day’ initiative to support the Free the Children Foundation,” added teacher organizer Artina Gurski.
Each Spirit Team also will take part in a hula hoop and a bubble gum-blowing contest, with prizes being awarded to participants.
As a treat, the students will enjoy a cream soda float (’50s style).
They also will have an Elvis impersonator contest in the gym.
“These ‘Spirit Days’ are part of the monthly Values Themes for Character Development in our Catholic schools,” explained Mary-Catherine Kelly, director of education for the Northwest Catholic District School Board.
“It is terrific when we can encourage students to have fun and celebrate the people and things they love,” she added.
