The parishioners of St. John’s Anglican Church here are holding their third-annual St. Andrew’s supper at the church hall on Thursday, Nov. 30.
St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland so the dinner will feature traditional Scottish fare, such as haggis and neeps, roast beef and all the trimmings, and shortbread for dessert.
Piper Bruce Lidkea will lead the haggis into the hall at 6 p.m., when the traditional “address to the haggis” will be performed.
After the meal, there will be Scottish entertainment with Highland dancers from the Fort Dance Studio, a fiddler, and a sing-along led by a pianist.
St. John’s parishioners are donating all the food so the entire proceeds of the evening will be sent to their sister Anglican parish in Malawi, Central Africa.
In the latest correspondence from Fr. Raphael Mponda of the Malawi parish, he reports that with help from St. John’s donations, they have been able to put a new corrugated iron roof on the church as well as continue with the purified drinking water project, which is improving the health of all the village residents.
They also have an active Sunday School, Mothers Union, and young girls’ group at the church.
Seating for the St. Andrew’s supper is going to be limited to 80 people this year, so advance tickets are required.
They cost $15 each, and are available at Lidkea, Elliott and Lidkea Optometrists on Scott Street as well as the church office.
