Work is on schedule at the future Rainy Lake Square.
In a report to town council Monday night, Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob said new storm sewer catch basins have been installed on Scott Street, with the storm sewer lateral now on-site and being tied into the additional catch basins.
The existing curbs, gutter, and sidewalk in front of the site has been removed while water lines and service tie-ins will be completed this week.
Meanwhile, about 30 percent of the site layout has been completed.
Forms are being installed in the ground, with concrete to be poured later this week.
Over on Colonization Road East, Pioneer Construction last week completed the installation of the asphalt along the bike path, as well as the island at the intersection of Scott Street.
The company is laying the second lift of asphalt on the road surface this week.
Once that’s done, primary contractor Makkinga Contracting and Equipment Rentals will be back to complete final landscaping work and any outstanding deficiencies.
In related news, Bay City Contractors is setting up temporary water supplies in preparation for the sewer and water reconstruction to be done on Nelson Street this summer.
The contractor will be tearing up the road and then replacing the in-ground infrastructure from the Mosher Avenue intersection to 100 metres westward.
As previously reported, the second sewer and water reconstruction project this summer–Second Street East between Portage Avenue and Mowat–will not start until Aug. 6, once Bay City is done Nelson Street.
As well, Grade 8 students from Jody Bonner-Vickers’ class at Fort High completed a storm sewer drain stencilling project to raise awareness of the watershed on May 31.
“The students completed the stencilling of 68 catch basins and manholes along Front Street and the neighbouring side streets,” noted Rob.
“Everyone had a great time, and learned a little bit about the watershed and spent some time outside–it was a really nice day,” he added.
