Square work nearly complete

The Rainy Lake Square is much closer to completion, with the hope it can be opened to the public by the end of next week.
As of yesterday, the stage decking and the paving stone work all were complete, and all of the steel structures are installed and complete, Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob told council last night.
Trees and shrubs are about 85 percent planted, and mulch and slate slabs are being installed this week.
All of the concrete work also is complete and the alley has been graded.
As well, all of the electrical services and lighting are done.
Site furnishings are mostly installed, with handrails to be on-site this week and installed.
Meanwhile, the “bar tops” for certain seating areas hopefully will be on-site this week and completed; if not, next week.
“If I do say so myself, in talking to people around town, it’s a very positive attitude that I am hearing about the market square,” Coun. June Caul told Rob.
“It’s beautifully done,” she added.
“It’s very, very professional looking and it really does add a lot to the middle of our town, for sure.”
As previously reported, the new square will serve as a place to hold vendors’ markets, concerts, and outdoor movies.
It also will be an open space for visitors to enjoy any number of activities, as well as simply sit and relax.
It includes such amenities as a stage, benches, tables and chairs, a water bottle filling station, and free WiFi.
And as anyone can see during recent evenings, it is well-lit.
