Square tenders sought

A call for tenders is out now for contractors to build the future Rainy Lake Square in the heart of downtown Fort Frances.
The deadline for tenders for the job, which also includes replacing the sidewalk bricks on the 200 block of Scott Street and at the Civic Centre, is 2 p.m. on April 11, at which time they will be opened publicly.
Council is scheduled to award the tender at its April 24 meeting.
Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob told the Times the exact start date for construction won’t be known until the tender closes.
However, work on the square is slated to be completed by Aug. 1.
The sidewalk replacement will be allowed to take a bit longer, Rob added.
The design work on the Rainy Lake Square has been done by Winnipeg-based firm Scatliff + Miller + Murray.
Features planned for the site include two raised patio areas with seating, a covered, elevated stage, and a water bottle-filling station, to name a few.
There will be enough room for an estimated 21 market vendor tents.
Plans already are underway for a concert series at the square, and an inflatable movie screen has been secured to hold outdoor movie nights.
