‘Spring Into Fire Safety’ campaign coming up

The Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service will be at Canadian Tire this Saturday (May 24) to promote its “Spring Into Fire Safety” campaign.
Fire safety specialist Wayne Riches said firefighters will be there from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and that the public is encouraged to come on out to get fire safety information and enter draws for various prizes.
Riches noted there may or may not be demonstrations going on, but at least one fire truck certainly will be on hand for the public to get a closer look at, as well as giveaways for the young ones, like plastic fire hats.
He added firefighters will be located both inside and outside Canadian Tire on Saturday to answer any questions about fire safety.
“We’ll answer any questions about outdoor burning, fire extinguishers, and smoke alarms,” said Riches. “There’s some new products we’ll have out there to talk about.
“Like there’s a new wireless smoke alarm, which is new technology,” he explained. “It’s just like your phone—if one gets set off, it will set the other one off.
“It’s an alternative to having a whole alarm system wired into your house.”
Riches noted “Spring Into Fire Safety” has become a regular event for the local fire department—a semi-annual companion to the fire safety promotion held each fall at Canadian Tire here.
