Spots still open for seminar on ‘big box retailers’

Those interested in learning more about “Surviving and Prospering in a Big Box Retail World” here next Wednesday (Oct. 15) will be happy to know they can still sign up.
“We’ve got about 30 people on the list, but we have room for more,” said Dawn Booth, co-ordinator at the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the three-hour seminar along with the Rainy River Future Development Corp., Fort Frances Times, and B93-FM.
“It should be a good turnout,” Booth added, noting those interested can register by calling her at 274-5773 before 5 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 14).
The seminar, which will feature consultant Roy Prevost offering business owners a “hands-on” strategy to prepare for the next level of customer service, runs from 7-10 p.m. at La Place Rendez- Vous.
Cost is $50 per business (this covers two reps per business).
Booth noted local groups wanted to bring Prevost back here given the positive feedback from those who attended a similar workshop in mid-April. About 130 people turned out for that one.
“It’s especially beneficial now that we know for sure that Wal- Mart is going to open,” said Booth, adding Prevost will be available afterwards to talk one-on-one with business people on an individual basis.
She added this seminar will differ somewhat from the one in April, so those who attended it might find it worthwhile come out for this one next Wednesday.
According to Prevost, businesses people should attend if they’re:
•keen to learn how to network within the community;
•seeking ways to “wow” customers;
•competing with business neighbours;
•interested in taking their business to a whole new level; and
•looking for information regarding the “future customer.” He also promises to teach those business owners to:
•create an ‘elevator speech’ for owners, managers, and employees;
•create ‘top of mind” awareness in customers;
•improve the profitability of their business;
•create an “outrageous customer service” attitude; and
•separate the “big box” myth from reality.
Prevost, who’s presented more than 100 workshops, has had over 25 years experience in marketing, wholesale, retail, and manufacturing.
