‘Spirit of Christmas’ deemed as a success

The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary held its December executive meeting on Tuesday (Dec. 4) in the small conference room at the hospital.
Convener Janet Lambert reported the “Spirit of Christmas” fundraiser held Dec. 9 at the Copper River Inn was a success, with 210 people in attendance.
All expenses were donated so all proceeds will go directly to health care at the hospital.
A big thank you goes out to all the sponsors, crafters, and artisans, as well as those who donated baskets. The response was overwhelming.
Thank also to all the conveners and a huge thanks to those auxiliary members who did baking. The goodie table was amazing and delicious, too.
Check out the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary’s Facebook page for photos.
In other news, the gift shop at the hospital now is set up for Christmas. Poinsettias, Christmas cactus, and stocking stuffers are available for purchase, as well as knitting and other items.
Gift bags are available for those who require them. Come in and check it out.
Volunteers, spearheaded by Judy Webster and Irene Laing, continue to provide activities and entertainment to the ALC patients on the second floor.
The patients truly are enjoying these activities and attendance continues to improve. A Christmas party, with presents for each patient, is in the planning stages.
Thanks to all members who readily volunteer for these activities. Most police checks have been completed at this point.
As well, a big thank you goes out to auxiliary member Kathy Taylor for having the piano tuned and absorbing the costs (everyone is enjoying the new sound quality).
Marnie Cumming reminds us that membership fees for 2019 are due. Applications are available in the gift shop, with the membership fee remaining at $5.
Please complete the bottom of the form, which indicates interests and preferences for member participation. She also requests that any changes in phone number, e-mail, or address be noted on the form.
New members always are welcome.
Donna Penney (Sick and Visiting) would like to remind members to contact her if they know of any member who is suffering an illness or loss so that cards can be sent.
Call her at 274-6406.
A letter also was received from HAAO advising the auxiliary that it had won a plaque in the photo contest under the “Community Links” category.
Finally, a reminder that the nomination committee will start up in January. The members are Judy Webster (president), Irene Laing (past president), and Shirley Scofield (vice-president).
If you are interested in becoming part of the executive, please contact these members.
At this time, president Judy Webster and the executive would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
Thank you for all your work to keep this auxiliary thriving.
