There’s still time to make a child’s Christmas morning special this year through the Kenora & Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services’ “Adopt-an-Angel” program.
Debra Bruyere, a community integration worker with the agency, said the tree at The Bargain Store was emptied of “angels” and taken down yesterday.
But there still are about a dozen “angels” on the tree at Walmart to adopt.
Bruyere said the gift ideas on the “angels” are just that—suggestions, and not mandatory.
“Any gift for a person of that age would be welcome,” she remarked.
Bruyere noted the tree at Walmart will be left up until Dec. 17. If there still are “angels” on it, she will use any donated money to ensure those remaining children get a gift.
The gifts will be distributed to the children by Dec. 22.
If you happen to miss your chance to “Adopt-an-Angel,” don’t worry, said Bruyere, noting program also will take donations of toys or money.
These can be dropped off at Kenora & Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services (located in the old high school).

For an 12th year, district residents have been asked to purchase gifts for local children who may not receive many presents this holiday season.
Around 130 “angels” were put up for adoption this year.
The goal is to provide a present under the Christmas tree for every foster child or child in need being served by Child and Family Services from Atikokan to Rainy River.
