On Friday around 4:30 p.m., Kenora OPP officers responded to an incident involving a snowmachine that had gone through the ice on Longpine Lake near Ingolf.
The passenger was able to get out of the water while the operator was recovered by emergency workers and transported to Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora.
Rick Schween, 55, died as a result.
Police report that during the last week, they had received incidents of snowmachines going through the ice on Round Lake, Rabbit Lake. and Laurenson Lake.
There were no injuries in any of these incidents.
