The “Friends of the Fort Frances Museum” is looking for volunteers to help run kids’ activities during “Snoasis 3: We Are Family.”
Slated for Saturday, March 21, the event will run from noon-2 p.m. at the Lions Park and over in the public library parking lot.
But in an effort to make the fun day bigger and better this year, organizers want extra helping hands from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. that day—with the extra half-hours at the start and end to help with set-up and clean-up.
“Volunteers will be asked to lead or supervise fun winter activities that have been selected by our committee,” said Friends’ member Samantha Manty, who organized the first “Snoasis” back in 2013.
Examples of activities include a snow treasure hunt, winter tic-tac-toe, winter mini-golf, snowball toss, and more.
Helping out is a great way for Fort High student who need volunteer hours to graduate, or just anyone who really likes seeing cultural activities in the community.
“Help support this amazing event and make it the best one yet,” urged Manty.

In addition to kids’ games, the event will feature free hot dogs in the library parking lot, and face painting and stories inside the library.
Meanwhile, the Rainy Lake Nordic Ski Club also will be on hand again to give youngsters a chance to try out cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Likewise, the Fort Frances Public Library will be serving up hot chocolate and cookies while the Sportsplex will host a toonie swim from 1:15-3:05 p.m. to coincide with “Snoasis.”
In related news, March Break (March 16-20) is shaping up to be packed with fun this year.
The Rainy River District Substance Abuse Prevention Team has planned a variety of free activities for the whole family each weekday during the break.
On Monday, March 16, it will host a free swim at the Memorial Sports Centre from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Then on Tuesday, March 17, there will be free curling at the Fort Frances Curling Club for everyone ages five and up.

Science North will be bringing its “Indoor Planetarium” to the UNFC Headstart building (308 Butler Ave.) from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 and again Thursday, March 19 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
SAPT will wrap up the week with a bonfire, snowshoeing, snaring demonstrations, stew, bannock, and basket-making at the Nanicost Building here, courtesy of the Seven Generations Education Institute and Seine River First Nation.
