A routine blast at the Fort Frances quarry on Monday sent a small piece of rock flying, hitting a power line and tripping a breaker. Parts of Fort Frances’s west end lost power temporarily.

Shane Armstrong, owner of George Armstrong Co. — the company doing the blasting — says they do this blast every year or two.

“It’s all routine,” says Armstrong. “It’s just unfortunate.”

He says they use the rocks to make aggregate to supply the District with granular materials.
