A 45-year-old Cochrane man lost his life when the snowmobile on which he was a passenger plunged through thin ice on Upper Jobrin Lake, about 40 km north of Longlac.
Lucien Dubeault was one of a party of three who had been fishing on the lake
OPP Emergency Response Team members and an OPP helicopter managed to rescue the other two individuals.
One of them, the driver of the snowmobile, was taken to Geraldton District Hospital and subsequently airlifted to the Thunder Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Unseasonably warm weather has caused ice conditions to deteriorate rapidly throughout the region, and members of the public are strongly urged to stay off the ice.
