With the deadline for nominations having closed yesterday, the committee tasked with choosing the “Citizen of the Year” for 2016 will have some tough decisions to make in the next week as it decides the nominee most deserving of the honour.
A total of six nominations were turned in at the Civic Centre prior to yesterday’s 4 p.m. deadline.
The Citizen of the Year Committee, consisting of Couns. Paul Ryan and Wendy Brunetta and citizens Darlyss Kreinke and Rick Wiedenhoeft, with Mayor Roy Avis as an ex-officio member, will begin its decision-making process next week.
It will make its recommendation to council Nov. 14.
Provided council endorses the committee’s recommendation, this year’s “top citizen” and his/her respective nominees would be notified of council’s decision at that time.
This year’s “Citizen of the Year” will be named during the meeting of Nov. 14.
Following that, the individual will be acknowledged and celebrated during the Nov. 28 meeting of council.
As always, the town will encourage family, friends, and supporters to attend.
