A large sinkhole was discovered in the middle of the 200 block of Third Street East around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The town had scheduled an emergency repair (dig) of the sanitary sewer system today once all the locates have been received, Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown said in an e-mailed update this morning.
“This section of Third Street East will be shut down to through traffic, where local traffic will gain access to their property from either side of the sinkhole,” noted Brown.
“Also, this repair will have an impact on access to the Portage Avenue underpass as access only will be made . . . along Third Street East between Portage Avenue and Victoria Avenue,” he added.
The town estimated the repair would take one day to complete, with everything back to normal by tomorrow.
