Car-lovers get ready! The International Early Iron Car Club and local Business Improvement Association will be holding its annual “Scott Street Show ’n Shine” this Saturday (May 20).
“Weather permitting, we’re expecting up to 100 cars this year,” said car club member Wayne Woods, adding the turnout was around 65 vehicles last year.
The classic cars will be on display from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the 200 and 300 blocks of Scott Street, which will be blocked off so people can roam the street and look at all the antique cars, trucks, and souped-up street rods.
People’s Choice awards, Participants’ Choice awards, and attendance prizes will be given out, as well as five prizes of $100 specifically for out-of-town participants who come from more than 50 miles away.
All of these will be awarded at 2 p.m.
For those who want to enter their classic vehicle in the show, just show up Saturday morning. The line up begins at 9 a.m.
Registration fee is $10. There also will be a free barbecue for participants at 3 p.m. in “Mud Lake City” (south of Devlin).

Coinciding with the show ’n shine will be several other events. Howarth’s Home Centre, for instance, will be hosting a fundraiser barbecue for the Fort Frances Museum renovations while the museum staff will be running a garage sale inside that building.
As well, at least some Scott Street businesses are expected to have sidewalk sales during the “Show ’n Shine” event.
“We’re encouraging all of them to do it. It’s hard to say how many will do it, it probably depends on the weather,” said BIA co-ordinator Patti Anderson, who’s keeping her fingers crossed it will be a sunny day.
And for the kids, there will be free balloons and AWANA Grand Prix racing in front of the Fort Frances Museum.
Anderson is hopeful the annual event will draw a good crowd.
“We encourage everyone to come down, rain or shine, because the cars will still show up. These guys are die-hards,” she remarked.

Looking to the near future, Anderson said she wants to see this year’s “Mall Day,” slated for Thursday, June 29 this year in conjunction with Fun in the Sun festivities, bigger and better than ever.
For one thing, she’d like to have a motorcycle show ’n shine during it.
Anderson is encouraging any motorcycle clubs or individual riders to contact her if they’re interested in participating.
She also is encouraging any service clubs or any other groups that want to put on or sponsor an event in conjunction with “Mall Day” to contact her. One such idea is a children’s sidewalk chalk-drawing contest.
