The sixth-annual “Scott Street Show & Shine,” presented by the Business Improvement Association and International Early Iron Car Club, is planned for this Saturday (June 13).
From 9 a.m.-2 p.m., the public is welcome to check out the classic cars—or bring down one of their own “hot rods” to show off.
Since truck traffic is being diverted down Scott Street due to the biomass road reconstruction job, the 200 and 300 block of Scott Street will not be closed for the event, as it has been in past years, BIA co-ordinator Patti Anderson noted yesterday.
Instead, Portage Avenue will be closed from Scott Street to Church Street so classic cars can park along the avenue, as well as in the parking lot behind the post office.
“We encourage everyone to come downtown and walk around and participate in the event,” said Anderson, adding the “Scott Street Show & Shine” also will feature sidewalk sales, Grand Prix races for kids, and a downtown poker run for a chance to win $100 in BIA bucks.
Those interested in taking part in the poker run should go see Anderson at the registration tent at the former Robin’s Donuts.
She will take your name and then give you a sheet with nine boxes on it that you must bring to the eight participating businesses, which, in turn, will stamp one of the boxes.
The centre box is free.
You then turn the sheet in to Anderson for up to nine cards (depending on how many stamps you got), from which you try to make your best poker hand.
There is no cost to play.
The poker run ends at 2 p.m. with the winner being announced at 2:30.
The $100 in BIA bucks are to be spent at any of the BIA businesses (a map will be given to the winner to show them exactly which businesses those are).
