While changes are in the works to local Shaw TV coverage now that programming will be run out of Dryden and Kenora, cable subscribers here can rest assured coverage of Monday evening town council meetings will continue.
Town administration and some council members met with company representatives here Friday afternoon to discuss the continued need for community television programming for Fort Frances customers.
“It was a very positive meeting. We had good dialogue, and they are going to be doing council meetings,” Mayor Roy Avis said Friday afternoon. “They’re just changing their format of the way they do business in the community.”
While he was not able to comment as to how the coverage will be handled, such as if it will be shot by freelancers hired out by Shaw, Mayor Avis said council coverage will “remain the same and get back to normal” hopefully as soon as possible.
“They’re working on it at the present time,” he noted. “It will be in short order.”
The mayor also noted Shaw will be covering the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship here this week.
After concerns were expressed by members of council and administration at the July 14 council meeting, Mayor Avis said it’s good news to hear Shaw cable customers will be able to continue watching their meetings from home.
He added there also was some discussion Friday about other types of community programing local TV viewers have come to expect from Shaw, such as the Lions TV Bingo.
“We discussed those matters. They’re taking them back and trying to work out a solution,” the mayor said.
