Seniors’ lifestyle expo in the works

After staging a very successful one last fall, the Fort Frances Seniors’ Coalition is planning its second-annual seniors’ lifestyle expo slated for Saturday, Oct. 27 at Fort Frances High School.
“The purpose of the seniors’ lifestyle expo is to provide information to seniors about local services and organizations, and to provide seniors with educational opportunities related to health and well-being,” Siobhan Booth, health educator at the Northwestern Health Unit, said yesterday.
Booth said that right now, she’s looking for exhibitors promoting “any programs or services that relate to seniors,” whether that’s activities to keep busy, products they might be interested in, or information regarding anything from safety to financial investments.
Registration forms just went out last week, and organizers already have had seven responses so far.
Last year’s expo saw 37 area businesses and organizations participate, ranging from the Fine Line Art Gallery, Fort Frances Public Library, Northridge Funeral Home, and Confederation College to the Fort Frances Clinic Dispensary, Shoppers Home Health Care, Curves for Women, and Valley Diabetes Education Centre.
Booth said she’s also lining up guest speakers for the expo, and hopes to have at least three confirmed for that day.
The expo, which will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., is open to everyone—no matter their age—and seniors are encouraged to bring their families along.
Admission is free, and a free lunch will be served around noon.
“We’re encouraging people to come out and enjoy themselves,” said Booth. “It was a lot of fun last year, and we figure it will be lots of fun this year, too.”
Last year’s seniors’ expo drew about 250 people, and Booth is aiming to draw at least that many this time around.
